Dalai Lama Quote

"If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion". I think that this quote means that if you practice compassion, your life will be a lot easier. If you show more compassion then people will be nicer to you and appriciate you more. People will start to act different around you. You will also feel better yourself because you have done a good deed. Showing and practicing compassion will help you a lot in your life and it will me you feel better and you will look better when your around people.

I agree and disagree about this quote. This quote can be good because you will feel happy when showing compassion. But showing to much compassion might lead to you being pushed around. people might start taking your kindness for granted. This will not happen all the time but also depends on what type of people are around you.

Everytime I do a good deed or show compassion, i feel better. But i show a little to much compassion some times. People start to take me for granted and ask me for things. They do this just because i am nice to them one time and they think they will get what they want from me. Thats just taking me for granted and that isnt good.

"Marigold" Question

  • Why does Lizabeth destroy Miss Lottie's flowers?
  • How does the climax of the story begin a rite of passage from childhood to the beginning of womanhood?
  • Why does Miss Lottie never plant marigolds again, despite Lizebeth's remorse?
Answers

1) She destroys Ms. Lottie's flowers because she is to young to see the beauty and meaning behind them. She also has a temper tantrum because she has kept her feelings inside of her bottled up. After seeing her big strong father cry she was confused and angry and took her anger out on Ms. Lottie's beautiful flowers.

2) In the beginning she was a child because she would do childish things with her friends and brothers. She would throw rocks at Ms. Lottie's flowers and she thought Ms. Lottie's flowers were to beautiful for Ms. Lottie's broken down home and retard son. Later on, after she has done her last childish act she realizes what she has done and that it was wrong and childish.

3) Ms. Lottie never plants marigolds again because she was sad and mad at what Lizabeth did and it broke her heart. The flowers were the reason that she kept living her life and it showed her life threw the flowers. All her strength was in her flowers and when the flowers were gone she had no reason to go on.

My Personal Reflection Essay

"You are beautiful, but you are empty," he went on. "One could not die for you. To be sure, an ordinary passerby would think that my rose looked just like you--the rose that belongs to me. But in herself alone she is more important than all the hundreds of you other roses: because it is she that I have watered; because it is she that I have put under the glass globe; because it is she that I have sheltered behind the screen; because it is for her that I have killed the caterpillars (except the two or three that we saved to become butterflies); because it is she that I have listened to, when she grumbled, or boasted, or ever sometimes when she said nothing. Because she is my rose.

This quote means that just because you are pretty or just like everyone else you are nothing to me. I also think that this quote means that things are unique to you in different ways. An example of this is when the little Prince wasted so much time on his one rose than all the others. This shows how important the rose is to him.

Also, I can really relate to this quote. I have had many umbrellas in the past and they are nothing to me. My Grandmother died recently and i took her umbrella to remember her by. That umbrella means more to me than a lot of things i have. It isn't the best looking umbrella and it isn't the newest umbrella but it is a special one. It mean a lot to me and i would trade all of the umbrellas in the world for it.

Essay #3

"There are many truths of which the full meaning cannot be realized with personal experience has brought home" I think that this quote means that you will never know something till it actually happens. This quote is like betting. You never know who is going to win until it happens. The last super bowl really brought this quote into thought because everyone thought the giants would lose. The patriots never lost a game that season until the giants beat them. You never know what happened till it happens.

I have had many expirences with this quote. Me and my friends were watching a wrestling ppv. It was royal rumble and in the royal rumble you must throw your opponent out so he can get iliminated. Then It was down to 2 people and we thought we knew who was going to win. We were so sure this person was going to win until a wrestler who was gone for almost a year came back and won. We had no idea that this was going to happen. He ran toward the ring and got in. The other opponent was tired so he came and threw him out of the ring and won the match. He was now able to go and fight for the WWE title. You never know what happens till it happens.

Group Remenissance

My Group Trip to Barbados

One summer me and my bestest budies went to Barbados. Some of of left on the same day, some left before, some left after. I left on Saturday with my cousin Jaire and my family. We got there early in the day and came home and chilled. I slept early that day. It was 9:00 and in New York it was 10:00.

The Next day we all went to the beach and we were playing with a beach ball. The beach ball got hit to far and our friend Lamar tried to get it. He wasnt making the situation any better. Everytime he would try and grab it, it would go further. We kept trying but eventually the ball went to far we could not get it. This lady tried to save it for us but it was to far for her to get it.

The next day we all went to my friends Jamel's house in barbados to relax and hang out. Jamel fell so we put toothpaste on his hand and tickled him with a feather. He slapped himself hard and all the toothpaste was on him. We were laughing histerically! When he woke up he was mad and making threats but laghing at the same time. This action only made us lagh more.

For the next few days i stayed home and hung out with my family. I had brought my games with me and we played games all day. The last day of vacation was drawing near. We all went to the beach and spent a day on the beach. We went to Mr. Delicious food truck at the back of the beach. We always go there for food when we are at the beach. We started dunking people in the water and at the same time it was high tide. I was dunk many times but i got fed up with it and then i started dunking my cousins!
